Key Word Sign is a strategy used to support understanding and encourage language in children and adults with communication difficulties. Short, clear sentences are spoken and the important or key words are signed at the same time. Additional information is given through the use of facial expression and natural gesture.
Key Word Sign is relevant for anyone living or working with a person with communication difficulties: Parents, grandparents, teachers, health professionals, child care workers, volunteers and sport coaches. No previous signing experience is necessary.
