2005 - The Beginning

The Sutherland Titans Football Club was formed with the idea of creating an environment for children with special needs to participate in sports and be just like their siblings, and give parents the opportunities to meet other parents in a relaxed atmosphere.

The games commenced in late May 2005 and were played on Saturday afternoons at Gymea Bay Oval No 2 in a Rooball format (Rooball was the forerunner of MiniRoos Football ie smaller fields, smaller teams, unlimited interchange, no off sides, etc).  The games were played against mainstream teams from clubs within the Sutherland Shire who all have a strong understanding of what Titans is about. The Sutherland Shire Soccer Community has always embraced the spirit of Sutherland Titans FC and has been a huge support in the functioning of our club.

In 2005, 4 teams of children (about 50 players) with various special needs participated in the abbreviated competition. The Pandas, Polars, Koalas and Grizzlies had an immensely enjoyable season culminating in a trophy presentation and BBQ at Gymea Bay Oval hosted by Gymea United Soccer Club.

All games were played relaxed format of the game and the focus of our club was building friendships, social networks and the opportunity to be part of a team environment.

Titans was never just about soccer ... it’s about giving special needs children the opportunity to be included in a mainstream world.
